Randburg
Cycle
Division

Randburg police station has a cycle division to police those areas where vehicles cannot access. The patrols last for three to four hours and are on/off road affairs, mostly trawling the parkland and bush-like sections of the Braamfontein spruit trail that's so popular with mountain bikers. The bicycle patrol obviously has limitations and works in conjunction with vehicle patrol units that provide backup when necessary and transporting arrested suspects to the Randburg station.

HOT LINE

A hot line has been established for members of the public to contact the Randburg Police with tip offs of criminal activity in the Randburg Area.

Members of the public are encouraged to make use of this number, thus enabling the Randburg SAPS to curtail crime in the area, the more eyes seeing things and reporting, the greater the chances of catching and prosecuting the criminals.

Let's all work together and bring crime down to an absolute minimum. We can't do anything about criminal activity if we do not know about it.

All information will be treated confidentially

Year End Wishes

Dear Colleagues

We have reached the end of yet another year and it has been a rollercoaster ride throughout. How time flies when one is having fun. 2011 has been a pretty hectic year in many respects. We scored a number of successes and have every reason to celebrate.

Just a number of highlights during the year in support of our strategic objectives:

We continued to power ahead as we managed to reduce crime in many of our sectors.

Applications to join the Randburg Reservists grew by a solid 40% on last year averaging 11 per month which is no mean achievement.

The relationships with our community remains strong and we expect that trend to continue in the new year.

We have seen a great  pass rate of the regulatory conversion course from the disbanded Category D to fully functional Category A of 95%.

We have just finalised the refurbishment of our Reservist Office which has given renewed excitement for all.

We policed and excelled in our annual large operations such as the 94.7 Cycle Challenge, Sisters with Blisters, St Stithians Rugby Week, Spring Day Concerts and Randburg Day.

In spite of all the stated achievements and more we remain focused on the task at hand and remain mindful of the fact that there are still a number of weaknesses we need to work on.

Our churn rate remains high. We had a several Reservist members transferring to the coastal regions, we had a few members immigrate overseas and a handful went to our cluster to work in the Nyala’s and Casper’s.

Controlling and stabilizing crime remains under pressure as we are sailing too close to our target number.

As the year draws to a close and as I reflect on our achievements thus far I can only compliment a committed team that has given nothing but the best to ensure we continue being the “Pride of the North” and maintain a respectable position as the top station in the cluster. I am proud to be leading a group of such competent individuals, our history bears testimony to such achievements and I am not shy to say that every one of you has given their best to serve and protect and ensure that Randburg SAP remains one of the leading Police stations in South Africa.

I am sure a lot of you will be joining me on a well deserved break as we celebrate the Christmas holiday and new year. May I take this opportunity to wish you all happy holidays and look forward to seeing you in the new year as we continue with the growth and momentum within our Reservist Core.

To those few members that are remaining in Randburg during this period I have no doubt you will hold the fort on our behalf with pride and look forward to seeing you in 2012.

Once again thank you for the support and I look forward to your continued support in 2012.

Regards

Brent Kur
